Thank you for visiting the Althoff Catholic High School web page. The Library is both an active and relaxing work area in the school. Most of the study halls are now housed in the Library because of their size. The study hall students find it a quiet place to catch up on work or to "chill out" before their next class. Teachers send students to the Library to make up tests or missed work. Often teachers will bring their entire class to the Library to do research.
The Library is located on the second floor, in the wing above the Main Office and Guidance. It is adjacent to the Internet Lab, which is convenient when classes need to do extensive research. The Library is open each school day as soon as staff are available, but no later than 7:45 a.m. It remains open as long as students are present up until 4:00 p.m. Due to the carpeting and computers, no food or drink of any kind are permitted in the Library. Cell phones are also prohibited.
Students are responsible for materials checked out to them. Books can be renewed at the end of the loan period, as long as there are no reserves waiting on it. Fines for overdue materials are five cents ($.05) per school day. Reminders are sent out periodically to students who have overdue books and fines. Students should return all materials and pay all fines before taking final exams.

During the school day, a student may use the Library by securing a pass signed by a teacher or study hall moderator. There is a copy machine in the Library that students may use to make copies for fifteen cents ($.15) per page.
Resources that are available
in the Library include a collection of over 8,000 volumes of books, an automated
catalog of all the books in the Library, several sets of encyclopedias, five
newspaper subscriptions, over 40 magazine subscriptions, and two on-line databases
for locating articles from back issues of magazines, newspapers, and journals.
The student must have an Internet Authorization and Code of Conduct form (used
throughout the Belleville Diocese) signed by a parent/guardian before he or
she is allowed to access the Internet
at Althoff.
